Nike Sues Chinese Firms Over Logo

Apparently, two Chinese firms have been selling shorts bearing a basketball player silhouette similar to the one used in Nike’s “JUMPMAN” logo. Lawyers for the defendants, Shanghai Century Lianhua Chengshan Supermarket Co. and Shanghai Kangchen Garment Co., claimed the companies didn’t know their logo was similar to Nike’s. The logo features a slightly different silhouette with the word “sports” written underneath. Shanghai Century Lianhua Chengshan Supermarket Co. had purchased 39 pairs of the shorts from Shanghai Kangchen Garment Co., who claims it did not manufacture the shorts but bought 50 pairs from a market for about 13.20 yuan apiece– a little less than $2 USD. Nike is demanding an apology and 300,000 yuan (roughly $44,000 USD) for any damage caused to the brand.
