Savannah College of Art and Design or SCAD,  is a private art college that is accredited and issues many degrees in the art and design fields.  It was founded in 1978 and opened to 71 students in 1979.  At the time, SCAD offered 8 degrees.

Savannah College of Art and Design issues degrees including Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Architecture, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Fine Arts, Master of Urban Design degrees.  SCAD also offers many other undergraduate and graduate certificates.  SCAD is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Additional locations abroad have opened up the opportunity for study abroad programs in Lacoste, France and Hong Kong.

Savannah College of Art and Design Cost

College tuition has been on the rapid uprise over the past 2 decades, and private schools are no exception.  SCAD prices are comparable to other private art institutions.  Tuition for SCAD is between $30,000-$31,000/year, depending on whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student.  Application fees of between $35-$70 and an enrollment fee of $500.00 are also applicable upon applying to the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Meal plans, Housing cost and additional fees also apply depending on your specific living arrangement and needs.  The prices are different for study abroad programs through the Savannah College of Art and Design.

SCAD Faculty

SCAD is a well-staffed school.  The faculty is not only abundant (average of 10 students per teacher) but is highly skilled and trained in their field.  Some of their faculty members include Michael Nolin (Film and Television) who is the Professor of Screenwriting.  He was the screenwriter for Mr. Holland’s Opus.The screenwriter for Slaughter House Five is also on staff, as well as Tony Award winners, Visual Effects Artists from critically acclaimed films.  The impressive list of faculty members at the Savannah College of Art and Design goes on much longer and is a huge draw to art students who want to succeed in the industry.
